About 2000 food packs were distributed to destitutes, prison inmates, almajiri and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) by a Kaduna-based church to mark the Eid-Kabir. The distribution, according to Pastor Yohanna Buru, the General Overseer of The Christ Evangelical and Life Intercessory Fellowship Ministry, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna state is aimed at promoting peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Christians. “We have to help our poor Muslim brothers with food in order to enable them celebrate the festival like any other Muslim and to strengthen our good relationship.
The cleric noted that this was not the first time the church is distributing foods stuffs to needy Muslim during festivity. “Last year, over 1,100 packaged food and drinks were distributed to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), destitute, widows and some prison inmates in Kaduna state.” “Both the Muslims and Christians are children of Adam and Eve. Both Muslims and Christians believe in one God and we both have holy books which are the Bible and the Qur’an. So we are all brothers and sisters, therefore we must support each other to live in peace and harmony.”
He then appealed to wealthy Muslims and Christians in the country and government at all levels to assist the poor especially the widows and orphans during festive periods. Receiving the food items at the physically challenged person home at Kano Road Kaduna, Mallam Tukur Zubairu, leader of the blind people in Kaduna, thanked Buru for the donation “Every year during a season like this, Pastor Yohanna Buru and his members remember us and donate plenty of food items to our members. It is only God that can reward his effort for coming to our home without showing any sign of discrimination or stigmatizing to us.”
Also responding the Chairman of the Malam Nigga Rehabilitation Centre, Malam Lawal Maduru, urged other clerics to emulate the good gesture. “We must help one another to make Nigeria great irrespective of our ethno-religious and political differences.”
